The Science of Music

Together, in this collaborative talk, we'll examine some elements of music - the nature of harmonic structures, resonance, frequency, and rhythm through the lens of physics, quantum mechanics, biology, and the history of our species.

We'll explore how humanity used music in contexts beyond "entertainment value", including in the spiritual and metaphysical realms. We'll also explore how some elements, embedded within music, may have influenced our history, physiology, and mind.

William Cunningham

William is a composer and pianist from Banff, Alberta, Canada. He is travelling to Brisbane specifically to speak at the AMC. William previously delivered his successful talk, The Science of Music, to critical acclaim at the 2018 Mensa Canada Annual Gathering in Calgary; conducted a musical team exercise at the Icebreaker; was a contestant in the Mr. Mensa Canada pageant; and helped guide a coach tour to Banff and Lake Louise for out-of-town Mensans. Remarkably, this led William to decide he really likes Mensans and they like him back.

William is known for his work as a pianist and composer and has performed for esteemed and internationally renowned audiences, including the Kennedy family, the last 3 Prime Ministers of Canada, Robin Williams and Buzz Aldrin, among numerous other business conglomerates and celebrity figures. He played for and dined with Trump's second ex-wife and daughter. He also appeared on "Mornings with Kerri-Anne Kennerley" in Australia.
